ways to get involved
think global, act local vibes
THROUGH YOUR EMPLOYER
Have the conversation. Who’s in charge of corporate social responsibility. If there’s no department, perhaps organize a meetup with fellow colleagues. Or perhaps kick around and pitch some ideas on ways the company can get involved in organizations that make sense and align with what the business mission and purpose is. You can do this in an eloquent or diplomatic manner where you can true interest from other members of the company and leadership team.
Are there speakers that you can bring in to gather more interest in the company on what sustainability changes or charitable activities that you as whole can help do or be a part of.
This is something we do at Grooted too, help align your business strategies to sustainable efforts.
POLICIES
Start asking yourself questions. Be curious. What are those local/city policies that are in the works for change? How can you be involved for change? What are ways to help volunteer in my community? Even down to the smallest things, like composting. How can I help? Where can I compost? Who is doing it?
Here in New York, we have a Green New Deal that has and will be changing New York City to be more forward in many sustainability efforts from lowering our carbon emissions from buildings to the plastic bag ban. Here’s a start on ways to get involved for New York City.
Globally, we had/have Greta Thunberg start the Climate Strike movement that also helped lead her to speak at the United Nations Climate Action Summit in 2019 in front of world leaders asking for change, asking and calling on for immediate action to take place.
LISTEN, WATCH
Netflix and chill doesn’t have to be about the typical action, drama, comedy, etc. movies and series. It could be about climate change or environmental focused documentaries, docuseries and podcasts that are speaking and showing us what is actually happening on our planet in terms of climate change, environmental challenges, sustainability and creating awareness in this sector.
